Each month we select ”Color of the Month” – an inspirational shade that reflects the here and now. Alongside the color we present a moodboard of images that back our choice. Pantone’s Strawberry Cream is our selection for July 2019.

For this month’s color, we are looking at the world through rose colored glasses. This idea reflects the nostalgic atmosphere and the desire to focus on the best pieces of American culture. Whether it be Palm Springs in the 1950s or Art Deco Miami 1930s, we can be inspired by the classic image of a carefree American lifestyle.

We take a step back in time to the decades after World War II, when the emergence of the middle class in America and the spread of suburban thinking transformed former farmlands into a sea of cookie-cutter houses.

Visual inspiration to this mood can be drawn from photographers like William Eggleston and Bill Owens, whose work documented the nuances of everyday middle-class life.

The pastel colored world is almost too perfect and it is only natural to question its truth. Suspicion arises: does something lie beneath the surface? This notion is portrayed to great effect in the strange and suspicious characteristics of small town life in TV shows like Riverdale and Twin Peaks.
