MINDSPACES theme moves between the material and the intangible, as well as the real and the imaginary. It explores the spatial solutions, materials, colours, scents, lighting and objects that evoke emotions, catering for various needs in life.
Homes and spaces have a variety of functions. Life is balancing between work, well-being and togetherness where the spaces and environments are the realm of the senses, places in which the mind can rest, and be inspired. The theme Mindspaces will bring a visually powerful display in Habitare, in which visitors can participate, like characters in a story.
“Home is a state of mind, that is to say, home is where the heart is. Physical spaces are becoming more important as reinforcers of various states of mind”, say the designers of the theme, the trend expert Antti Rimminen from Urban View and the culture and fashion reporter Mia Dillemuth.
The Habitare exhibition design, conceived by the designer Laura Väinölä, is also built around this theme.
For Rimminen and Dillemuth the project included concept design and producing of key images for the theme. They chose to work with Patrik Svensson, an illustrator whose clients include 20th Century Fox, Penguin Books, NY Times and Wall Street Journal, amongst many others.
Mindspaces project also included planning color guidance with Pantone references to support the idea.
Pantone’s 17-1449 Pureed Pumpkin from the Habitare palette is also our Around Color of the Month for September 2019.
The Habitare programme will elaborate on the theme, highlighting phenomena and current issues such as multi-sensory experience; the union of digitality and reality (virtual reality, augmented reality, mixed reality, real reality); the meaning of privacy; circular economy; and happiness.
Dillemuth and Rimminen will be presenting the trends behind the MINDSPACES theme on the Arena stage on 13th September at 13:00 and on 14th September at 16:00. Presentations will be in Finnish.
